Tottenham Hotspur have not made any progress in pursuit of a new winger or stirker this summer transfer window. Spurs began with interest in Manchester City star Savinho last summer and began this year's window with significant interest in the Brazilian international, but contrary to their initial optimism, the Citizens have been more reluctant to sell the player to Spurs than expected.
There are other options available out there, too, including players on the left wing who can offer more goals to the Lilywhites. And there is no option worth dreaming about more than PSG star Bradley Barcola, who, even after the PSG deal for Yan Diomande collapsed thanks to Real Madrid, told his club that he wants out this summer.
According to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool have already begun preliminary talks for Barcola and will soon begin their formal club to club discussions with the Ligue 1 giants to sign the French national team star. And he is Liverpool's ideal transfer target on the left wing to replace another potential Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Dutch international Cody Gakpo.
That alone is enough of a warning to Tottenham that they are going to struggle to sign Barcola with Liverpool keenly intent on him and already on the trail, but if that were not enough, there is another very concerning nugget in there about Barcola.
Per Jacobs, PSG are asking for 170 million euros for Barcola in this market, looking at how much Morgan Rogers went for to Chelsea and even in the center midfielder, how much Manchester City paid for Elliot Anderson. And that is so much money that even Liverpool, who really want Barcola, think it is too much.
Jacobs said, "Liverpool have held preliminary talks for Bradley Barcola, but formal club-to-club negotiations are yet to begin. Likely to change soon. Barcola is Liverpool's leading target, but a deal is price dependent. PSG's starting point is €170m, which Liverpool view as inflated and unrealistic. Aim will be to strike an agreement for less. Liverpool also tried for Barcola last summer when he was valued around €85m. have no intention to pay double that number now. PSG's position is informed by other deals this summer, including Elliot Anderson (£116m) and Morgan Rogers (£117m). Liverpool factor in Barcola's desire to leave and the fact he has two years left on his contract. Feeling within the club is if an agreement isn't reached this summer, PSG risk losing Barcola far cheaper in 2027 given he has no desire to sign a new contract."
So right now, Liverpool are in the clear driver's seat for Bradley Barcola and really want his quality and fit, while Barcola is open to the move. That leaves Tottenham Hotspur well behind with no concrete interest, and even though they have investd a lot, 170 million euros for only Barcola is almost as much as what Spurs spent on both Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. He may be crossed off the list soon.
