Tottenham Hotspur have a serious lack of goals again this season. Their leading scorer in the Premier League is Richarlison, though fans who actually watch the games can clearly tell that he is not a reliable scorer and his all around game precludes him from being the main starter over loan signing Randal Kolo Muani.
If Spurs are unable to keep Kolo Muani beyond the 2025/26 season after his loan deal with PSG expires, they will have no reliable long term options at striker. Dominic Solanke has been too injured to count upon, and Richarlison is someone Spurs will actively move on from in the summer. Mathys Tel has been an intriguing option at striker, but the feeling is that his long term future lies on the left wing.
So while Spurs are mostly after wingers this January transfer window to upgrade their attack, there is still need for a long term solution at the striker position. And there is an underrated breakout star this season who has always been worth Spurs time and could finally become a prime target this winter.
Tottenham should be ready to battle Barcelona
According to a new report from Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona is not the only club tracking Levante star Etta Eyong, who just moved from Villarreal to the Frogs in the summer 2025 transfer window. Per Fab, Premier League clubs are also watching Eyong closely during this AFCON tournament for Cameroon, with Eyong scoring his first goal of the tournament on Christmas Eve.
Tottenham should be among the Premier League clubs monitoring Eyong closely, because he is a dynamic and talented young forward with good finishing chops and checks off a lot of the boxes that Tottenham are looking for at striker. He could be a great upgrade on Richarlison as part of a pairing with Kolo Muani until the season ends - and maybe beyond that if RKM stays.
Eyong has scored 6 goals in 15 La liga games between Villarreal and Levante this season, and while that may not seem like much, his scoring record of 5 in 12 games as a new player for a smaller club like Levante is actually a pretty massive return, especially for a 22 year old.
He is a good bit younger than the main strikers Tottenham have, and he is already better than them. Eyong creates chances for himself, finishes at an above average level, and is supremely underrated in his hold up play. People underestimate AFCON as a haven to scout talent, but Eyong should be a striker near the top of Spurs list.
