Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarilson scored 11 goals in the Premier League for the club last season, and his work rate and availablity at the position were honestly essential to the Lilywhites even surviving the drop at all.
While, in an ideal world, Spurs would have fielded a better striker last season, Randal Kolo Muani was so atrocious and Dominic Solanke so unavailable or thoroughly disappointing that Richy at least being around to tap in some goals - or score the occasional worldie - proved quite clutch.
But now, Richarlison has become the villain he did not want to be, and while some of that was at Roberto De Zerbi's urging, Richy denying a dream reunion back at Goodison Park was the last straw for many Tottenham fans to continue to buy his "aw shucks" routine. And after Richy left Spurs holding the bag by not leaving before the summer transfer window, De Zerbi straight up said that Richy was telling the club he wanted to leave, even though, publicly, the refrain has been very different.
Richarlison's future is totally up in the air
After a deal to Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig fell through, which was the last gasp hope Tottenham Hotspur had, Richarlison is set to be on the Spurs books for the 2026/27 Premier League season. And it is a situation that Alasdair Gold of Football.London does not see changing any time soon.
Speaking on his show, Gold said that he honestly does not know concretely what will happen to Richarlison. Because while a few foreign markets are still open, specifically the ones in Brazil and Portugal with a potential last second Saudi Pro League transfer possible, the ultimate most likely scenario is for Richy to remain at N17 until at least the winter.
Gold said, via Arabic Spurs, "I don't know what will happen with Richarlison. The Brazilian league market is open, and we believe the Portuguese league market is still open, while the Saudi league might be closed or have an additional registration period. We don't know. I feel like he might end up staying in the background."
Richarlison staying at Tottenham is not the ideal outcome for the club at all. Because not only has the relationship between Roberto De Zerbi and Richy broken down to the point where it could become toxic, but, also, Richy can leave for free on a pre contract in winter, meaning Spurs will basically lose around 20 million euros by seeing him walk as a free agent. No last minute shock deal in the other windows means money down the toilet for Spurs and more unnecessary Richarlison drama.
