Tottenham Hotspur star defensive midfielder Mateus Fernandes already had a lot of hype around him last season as he owned the Premier League as a 21 year old despite playing for one of the worst teams in European football in West Ham United with just about zero talent around him in the middle of the park.

Now, Fernandes is being held up internally by the Spurs front office as a player who can become one of the very best in the world over the next few years, as Tottenham have fallen even more in love with the player Roberto De Zerbi insisted on signing for 85 million pounds from their relegated rivals ahead of massive interest from elite European clubs Manchester United - and even Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid.

Fernandes will get to play alongside Sandro Tonali and, when healthy, Xavi Simons in a Tottenham midfield that suddenly could be one of the best in the Premier League after being one of the worst in the division over the last two seasons.

Mateus Fernandes is OK

Tottenham Hotspur supporters, however, are no strangers to devastating injuries, even to previously healthy players just arriving at N17, and there were rumblings out of nowhere that Fernandes had suffered an injury during the preseason when videos emerged of him sitting on the sidelines during practices - and some fans were floating a conspiracy theory of an ACL tear.

But now, a reputable source has spoken on the rumors with a reassuring update. According to a report from Football.London's Alasdair Gold, Mateus Fernandes is not injured. Point blank. There is nothing to worry about here. It is true, however, that he is not expected to play in the third friendly of the preseason against Sydney FC, but that is actually because Roberto De Zerbi has been pushing him and the other players very hard during training; this is simply the case of Spurs wanting to give one of their important starters some well earned rest.

Tottenham fans have so much anxiety over injuries at this point with how many of their crucial players have gone down out of nowhere. Everyone remembers how they were told Dejan Kulusevski sufferd a minor two week injury in 2024, and he has still been out with a career threatening knee injury. So since then - and with similar but lesser cases to Mohammed Kudus and Rodrigo Bentancur - Spurs have been on high alert. But in this case, nothing to worry about, thankfully.
