A mammoth summer splurge means Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be tempted into sales if just offers arrive on their doorstep, and another player they may be prepared to part ways with is Alfie Devine.
The 21-year-old, who starred on loan at Preston North End last season, may well have emerged as a Lilywhite protagonist had we succumbed to relegation. Devine joined the club as a 15-year-old in 2020, and soon became the club's youngest-ever player when he appeared off the bench in a FA Cup tie against Marine in January 2021.
The bustling midfielder has garnered praise from the likes of José Mourinho and Antonio Conte in N17, but much of his Tottenham career has been spent out on loan. His Deepdale venture last season was his fourth temporary stay since 2023.
Spurs' Premier League survival, combined with the club's £185m splurge to reinvent its midfield, means Devine will not be a part of Roberto De Zerbi's immediate plans. Thus, there's scope for a permanent move this summer off the back of an impressive campaign, with big clubs lurking.
Celtic weighing up £6m move for Alfie Devine

Celtic's interest in Devine is long-standing and there was renewed intrigue after the 21-year-old scored eight times in the second tier.
Preston's Young Player of the Season has several clubs on his tail, but none bigger than the Scottish giants. According to the Glasgow Times (via Chris Cowlin), Celtic are now "accelerating their transfer talks" with Spurs for Devine.
The Hoops have seemingly been boosted by Preston's decision to pass on signing Devine permanently. They had a £6m option to buy this summer and were seemingly keen to make the 21-year-old their record signing. However, according to various reports, that clause expired on July 1, meaning Devine is back on the open market.
Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also supposedly interested, offering Devine another chance to dazzle in the Championship for a club with aspirations of swiftly returning to the top flight.
Celtic, though, is an institution on a far grander scale, and a chance for Devine to enjoy atmospheres and occasions that the English Football League (EFL) cannot offer. It'd be a great move for the midfielder, and Spurs will seemingly be content if they get the Hoops to cough up £6m.
Mikey Moore described his experience north of the border as "special", even if Rangers ended the 2025/26 campaign without silverware.
