Tottenham Hotspur finished 17th in the Premier League again this season, except this time, they were actually at real threat of relegation to the EFL Championship, needing a 1-0 victory over Everton on Matchday 38 to confirm their survival ahead of rivals West Ham United.
So naturally, very few Tottenham players received real praise from the mainstream this summer, especially with many of the team's best players out injured for large periods of time. And even fewer players merited Premier League Team of the Season consideration, as the only real superstar level player for Spurs in the 2025/26 season was a young man in the Bundesliga, center back Luka Vuskovic over at Hamburg.
However, an incoming Tottenham player was actually so good in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign that he is earning Team of the Season plaudits from some. NBC Sports analyst Nick Mendola recently released his Premier League best XI of the campaign, and while Arsenal and Manchester City were unsurprisingly well represented with three players apiece as the main title contenders and two others were from Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur did actually have one member on the best XI - well, a future member.
Tottenham are getting a potential star
Marcos Senesi is going to sign for Tottenham as a free agent after Spurs spent months working to secure his signature in the case of their survival, and despite major interest from around Europe after a career year, the veteran Argentinian center back will indeed stay true to his word and go to Spurs, hoping to continue his upward trajectory as a late career bloomer while at one of England's most widely supported clubs.
Mendola placed Senesi on the right side of a back line that included former Spurs center back target Marc Guehi, who has been brilliant for Manchester City just as he was for London rivals Crystal Palace, and then Arsenal enemy Gabriel Magalhaes mans the middle in front of his teammate David Raya.
While Senesi is not as touted of a player as Gabriel or Guehi, he had an even more active year at the back and was such a great progressor of a ball that his creative numbers rivaled that of any player at any position on Tottenham. Senesi earning Premier League Team of the Season plaudits is another feather in his cap and another sign that Spurs may be getting a very important player, especially if he is the one to replace Cristian Romero.
