Even though Roberto De Zerbi has praised Dominic Solanke profusely and even gave him the leg up as the starting striker for Tottenham Hotspur when he first arrived in the manager's chair prior to the England international's injury, he has given the kiss of death before. He praised the far more deserving Joao Palhinha but did not end up keeping him because he realized that Bayern Munich would not lower the price to Tottenham and, more importantly, he realized that he could sign two big stars in Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali in the same position.
Though Cody Gakpo, a possible false nine, is the only center forward option concretely linked to Spurs now that Eli Junior Kroupi has fallen off the table in the summer 2026 transfer window, the right player could give De Zerbi pause and to the sale of either Richarlison or Solanke. And given Richarlison led the team in Premier League goals with 11 last season, was fit for more games, and showed a better work rate, he is the one fans want to keep.
As Tottenham look for possible striker options, they may have to look past the bloated big names like Dusan Vlahovic and instead at the underrated secondary market of stars shining in other leagues or not persistently linked to Premier League clubs, as Vlahovic has been pretty much ever since he first broke out at Fiorentina in 2020.
Georges Mikautadze is a gem in La Liga
There are rumblings that Georgian No. 9 Georges Mikautadze is on Tottenham Hotspur's transfer radar, and though he is always overshadowed by his back to back Champions League winning countryman Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from PSG, Mikautadze has become quite the marksman in La Liga after a great tenure in Ligue 1 himself.
Last season for the mighty Villarreal, Mikautadze proved to be every bit the Gerard Moreno heir by scoring 13 goals with 6 assists in his first taste of stingy La Liga defenses. Furthermore, he showed amazing all around quality as a fluid 9, adding to his goals and assists with a hefty 2.4 combined dribbles completed and fouls drawn per game.
Tottenham want to sign a relatively young No. 9 who can score, assist, and comfortably create off the dribble with good movement. Georges Mikautadze is 25 and checks off all those boxes, and, best o fall, he will affordable, possibly less than what they could get out of the former 65 million pound transfer Dominic Solanke if they were to replace one with the other.
