Tottenham Hotspur did not finish 17th in the Premier League by accident. They were in this exact position in the 2024/25 season under Ange Postecoglou despite winning the Europa League, but they were never at threat of relegation because of how historically poor the three newly promoted sides were in locking up relegation places.

But Spurs always had problems, and even though injuries and controversial referee decisions hurt them in 2025/26, those do not explain their sheer futility. Spurs had a fragile squad of players who could not get themselves together, and it took a huge effort from Roberto De Zerbi, whose instructions were still not fully carried out in a few key fixtures by the players, to get them to play competent enough football down the stretch to survive relegation.

Spurs are going to have to clean house this summer transfer window to bring in better players, and Tottenham transfer insider @szyexcl reports that there are six notable players who could leave Spurs this summer. Cristian Romero, Richarlison, Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma, Radu Dragusin, and Guglielmo Vicario are all in play for transfer exits.

Tottenham need to make key sales

None of these six names are surprising. Romero has been almost teasing a transfer away from Spurs just like he did last year when he was talking about leaving for La Liga in interviews. Bissouma and Dragusin have been actively on the chopping block and are two players Tottenham have no plans for. Vicario is close to a move to Inter Milan, and even if that falls through, Spurs are liking Antonin Kinsky as an option more after his heroics in the Premier League relegation battle - and they are still looking at other replacements for Vicario like James Trafford.

Sarr's name isn't as frequently mentioned, but he does not seem to be favored by new manager Roberto De Zerbi, nor has he impressed much beyond a few nice games at the very beginning of the 2025/26 Premier League season under Thomas Frank that have been quickly forgotten.

But of these six players, the real X-Factor to watch with the most ripple effect is Richarlison. Spurs leading goal scorer, Richy was important to Spurs survival, but he was not better than mediocre overall. At his age and with his previous injury history, Richy is someone Spurs have been shopping, too, and if he is willing to go to Turkey or Saudi Arabia for a decent bit of money, it's hard to see the Lilywhites saying no when they can get a better striker. And they need one.
