Tottenham Hotspur have received the fabled "Here We Go" from Fabrizio Romano to end a transfer saga that has been more than a year in the making, closing an agreement with Premier League title contenders Manchester City for the signing of their uber talented backup winger Savinho, who can play on either flank.
The deal will be a touch under the 85 million pounds that Spurs fans feared they would have to pay in order to appease a surprisingly reluctant Man City, as, including add ons, the deal will be around 80 million pounds, per Romano.
Here are the five biggest winners and losers of the transfer.
Winner: AM Xavi Simons
Xavi Simons has made it no secret throughout the summer transfer window that he wants to work with Savinho, and when Fabrizio Romano gave the green light to the signing, Simons shared it to the world. Now, the Dutch star is out injured for quite a bit of time after tearing his ACL at the end of the 2025/26 Premier League season, but once he comes back, he is going to love working with a dynamic winger who can give him more space, especially in transition.
Loser: LW Mathys Tel
Because Savinho will immediately step in as the starter, Mathsy Tel is going to lose significant minutes on the table. While he was not ready to start for Tottenham Hotspur yet, Tel was impressive last season and actually stood out as the team's best player in the preseason. Tel and Savinho have different profiles on the left with Tel inverting and shooting more often, so while there will be some room for the Frenchman to play, he is hurt by this move.
Winner: Roberto De Zerbi
Roberto De Zerbi already proved his pull by getting Tottenham to sign a trio of Premier League stars in Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke this summer transfer window, but bagging Savinho gives him his first big catch and proves he can sign a future superstar from a Big Six club.
Loser: Tottenham's rivals
Arsenal and Chelsea have better attacking talent than Tottenham overall, but depending on who Spurs add after Savinho, that gap could get closed really quickly. And based on what Savinho did in 2023/24 for Girona in competing for the La Liga title and Player of the Season honors, he has accomplished more than at least one starter on each of these teams on the wing. Savinho is the first glob of ketchup to come out the bottle, and the rest will come flooding out in terms of Spurs attacking signings.
Winner: Mohammed Kudus
Mohammed Kudus and Savinho may both play similar roles as far as being left footed winger who love to dribble and create, but the best things come in pairs. And with Savinho starting on the left, Kudus will get a lot more space to operate, which is huge for him. Plus, he won't have to get run into the ground and have as high of a risk of injury as he did last season with Savinho also potentially spelling him and Mathys Tel starting on the left.
