Tottenham Hotspur go into the international break at the bottom of the Premier League without a win in five games in the division. They also only just got their first goal in the league of the season in the game before the break. However, they still lost to Aston Villa. There have been few positives for the club heading into the internationals.
3 Tottenham winners heading into the international break
Conor Gallagher
Gallagher is the man who scored Spurs' first Premier League goal of the season. This was only going to be a consolation, as it went in in the 86th minute against Villa. However, it was followed by another goal from Jean Paul van Hecke.
Now that Spurs have broken their duck, more goals are sure to follow. Gallagher is trusted by Roberto De Zerbi, who often plays him in more attacking roles. This is despite Gallagher being more of a central/ defensive midfielder.
Savio
Savio, formerly known as Savinho, has a new name and is finally getting game time he lacked at Manchester City. He has yet to have any goal involvement in the league for Spurs. However, Savio has got a goal and an assist in the EFL Cup for De Zerbi's side. More goals are sure to follow after Tottenham finally scored in the league against Villa.
James Maddison
Maddison missed the entirety of last season due to his recovery from a cruciate ligament tear. This meant that he made just three league appearances in the last campaign. He has already played the same number of Premier League games this season. Maddison has still missed a few games with a shoulder problem, but Spurs fans will be relieved that it was nothing serious.
3 losers heading into the international break
Mateus Fernandes
Tottenham fans will be concerned that Fernandes has a relegation curse. He has already been relegated with Southampton and West Ham United. He has got assists in the EFL Cup, but is yet to do anything of note in the league. Fernandes was taken off at half-time against Villa, and the 22-year-old looks to be struggling to live up to his £85 million price tag.
Pedro Porro
Porro has played non-stop football recently after being a part of Spain's World Cup-winning squad. However, this appears to have led to his body breaking down, as he had to come off with a hamstring injury against Villa. Porro has had to drop out of Spain's roster for the upcoming friendlies.
Richarlison
Richarlison was left out of Tottenham's Premier League squad as he angled for a move away from the club over the summer. He was eligible to feature against Liverpool in the EFL Cup. However, De Zerbi still opted not to play him despite Tottenham's goal drought.
