Tottenham fans were given a bit of optimism when a post surfaced showing defender Micky van de Ven at training. A Shutterstock photo showing the Dutch international walking without crutches or needing a brace and shaking hands with Hueng-Min Son at weight training made the rounds on social media.

VDV came off the pitch with a hamstring injury in the first half of Tottenham’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea.

Needless to say, Spurs fans began to hope for the best possible outcome, that van de Ven’s injury was not as serious as it looked. The picture – which was taken on Wednesday, November 8 – has supporters wondering if he will be ready for the match against Wolves on Saturday.

Journalist Paul O’Keefe tweeted that the picture should be taken with a grain of salt, as players have to report to training even if they are injured. Scans on van de Ven’s hamstring are expected to be conducted Wednesday or Thursday.

Tottenham hasn’t released any official statements about van de Ven’s health status. It is unlikely he will start at Wolves, with Eric Dier and potentially Ashley Phillips stepping into the defense with Cristian Romero suspended for three matches and the Dutchman sidelined for now.

O’Keefe also reported James Maddison, Pedro Porro, and Richarlison did not train on Wednesday, either.

Tottenham are moving quickly to reinforce the defensive ranks in January. Dan Kilpatrick at Standard Sport said interest in Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly is set to be reignited. The club is also monitoring the situation with Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace. Defense and another striker are the primary targets for winter.

If van de Ven is cleared to play, it will be interesting to see how Ange Postecoglou manages his fitness going forward. The match at Wolves presents a great opportunity for academy prospects to cement a place in the senior team, especially for Phillips and Alfie Dorrington.
