Tottenham have had a remarkable start to the 23/24 campaign, extending their unbeaten run with their 2-1 win over Palace Friday night.

The game certainly wasn’t the best showing Spurs have had this season. Nevertheless, they were able to walk away with all three points from the match.

James Maddison had a tremendous impact all over the pitch and in the build up to both goals. Micky van de Ven was lights out, beating strikers to every ball with his speed on full display. The long awaited return of Rodrigo Bentancur also took place, with the midfielder getting some touches and even a shot off.

It was a crucial victory for Ange’s side considering that in the long term, the club will encounter all sorts of obstacles, whether it’s enduring tough matches at away stadiums or replacing injured players.

Reflecting on the match and Spurs’ season thus far, here’s what ESPN FC’s Steve Nicol had to say:

“You’re going to have games where you’re just not at your best, but the trick is to win them, and honestly I was sittin’ watching this and I started thinking about Leicester City…

All the talk… has been about [how] Spurs don’t have the squad to last a season, but that’s exactly what I and everybody else said about Leicester City.”

A title push seems extremely far away at the moment, but to Stevie’s point, looking at how Leicester was able to win the league in a similar situation, it’s not out of the question.

However, it is still true that with the limited squad depth Ange has to work with the task is all the more challenging. As such, the club will certainly need to be looking for some additional signings in the January window.

The need for another center back has long been discussed, with Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson in the mix of names. Spurs have also recently been linked with Juventus winger/striker Federico Chiesa.

Bringing in one or both of these players could give Ange just enough flexibility in his squad selection and backup options to give Spurs the stamina to come out of a long and arduous season with as many points possible.
