Tottenham’s Pierre Hojbjerg to Manchester United transfer rumour
Per Sky Sports’ report, Manchester United have contacted Tottenham’s Pierre Hojbjerg as they try to reinforce their central three before the window closes.
Hojbjerg’s future at Tottenham has been in question throughout the summer, with noticeable interest from Atletico Madrid, but now it seems the Dane could stay in England, albeit potentially wearing red.
United have been linked with several midfielders, including Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat. They certainly need it if Mason Mount’s early troubles and an aging Christian Eriksen are anything to go by.
Back in the 20/21 campaign under his tenure at Ajax, ten Hag told Voetbal International that he wanted to sign Hojbjerg before he got snatched up by Spurs.
Years later, ten Hag hasn’t lost interest. With no official bid for Amrabat yet, his move to Manchester is a distinct possibility.
If kept, however, he would certainly make himself useful to Ange.
While not necessarily the style of player that can keep up with the quick movement of those like Bissouma and Sarr, he could still lend himself to a solid defensive capacity.
Capable of distributing to wing outlets, he’s undoubtedly a solid option to be brought on in the latter stages of a match, bringing sound judgement that is useful amongst a relatively young squad.
One obstacle that could prevent the move is an anticipated high asking price from Spurs. ten Hag might be able to get Amrabat for a lower fee.
If that occurs, Hojbjerg might be forced to stay put. If he does remain in N17, he’ll have to get used to being a fringe player for the first time in his Tottenham tenure.
