Micky van de Ven destined for Tottenham as clubs reach agreement
By Gary Pearson
The news we’ve been waiting over a month to hear has finally come, as Micky van de Ven is destined to be a Tottenham Hotspur player, according to various sources.
Spurs will pay €50 million plus add-ons to land the man that has been in their crosshairs since near the start of the transfer window. Whether this rules out signing Edmond Tapsoba is unclear and will probably depend on whether Harry Kane is sold.
Regardless, Spurs supporters can rejoice about the news, as van de Ven is a perfect addition to Ange’s 4-3-3 attacking formation.
van de Ven is blessed with breakneck pace and was widely considered the quickest defender in the Bundesliga. That pace will perfectly complement Cristian Romero, whose aggressiveness and tendency to commit to a bone-crushing challenge can lead to Tottenham’s rearguard becoming overly exposed.
van de Ven will undergo a medical in the next 24 hours, after which the club will officially announce his arrival.
This news is worth the increased anxiety and trepidation it has caused for supporters, who were under the impression the deal was done over a month ago.
van de Ven’s contract will see him through the 2028 season, providing more than enough time for the Dutchman to become an elite marshal in the top flight. He’s definitely got the potential to ascend the ranks quickly.
While he will have less time to assimilate to life in London before the season commences on Aug. 13, at least the Dutch 22-year-old will have a week with his new club before the Premier League kicks off.
