According to Fabrizio Romano, Galatasaray has sent a verbal proposal to Tottenham for Davinson Sanchez, reported to be worth €9 million.

The Colombian leaving Tottenham this summer is almost as assured as having an obligatory Pimm’s at Wimbledon.

Galatasaray is one of a few clubs interested in signing the Colombian, whose Tottenham tenure became untenable toward the tail end of last season.

His Spurs’ career gradually fell off the rails. His demise didn’t happen overnight, rotting progressively away like a corpse placed below ground.

After being purchased for £42 million in 2019, things looked promising for the Colombian in his first season in England. However, costly and basic mistakes crept into his game more frequently.

It wasn’t just the mistakes but his flawed positioning and erratic play that raised a collection of red flags.

Before the infamous event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sanchez was enduring a woeful 2022-23 campaign, far below his and everyone else’s standards.

It all came to a head when he was booed off the pitch in a 3-2 home loss to Bournemouth in April.

Transfermarkt has Sanchez’s valuation pegged at €15 million, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tottenham make a counteroffer.

However, it’s unlikely Galatasaray will pay much more than their original €9 million bid (just under £8 million). Sanchez needs a new lease on life at another club to rejuvenate his floundering career.

Whatever the amount of the approved bid, Tottenham will take a massive loss on the out-of-sorts defender. For a player with such vast potential, it’s a shame to see his career at Spurs end like this.

Hopefully, he can resurrect his career in Turkey or wherever he ends up.
