A speculative rumour linking Torino’s Wilfried Singo to Tottenham has recently popped up, but do the murmurs have any credence?

As no mainstream, reputable publications or journalists have disseminated much of anything regarding Singo’s link to Spurs, at least in the current transfer window, this piece will be short and sweet.

Tutto Sport and Sport Witness are the architects of this particular rumour. No disrespect to either outlet, but Tottenham supporters won’t have their hopes lifted by somewhat unsubstantiated rumours.

We’re way too pessimistic for that.

Tenuous speculation can turn into a substantial, verifiable rumour quicker than commuting into central London from Chiswick on the tube.

However, this particular rumour has much farther to travel than that comparatively short sojourn before it manifests into something more than mere conjecture.

There is precedent for Singo’s Tottenham linkage. The Ivorian was linked to Tottenham during Antonio Conte’s regime. But even those rumours weren’t unsubstantiated, forming an unfulfilling common denominator.

But you never know. This time might be different, though I doubt it.

Torino is supposedly amenable to a €12 million bid, which seems reasonable for the 22-year-old right back.

Singo’s contract expires at the end of next season, so the Serie A side will either look to cash in now or hope he signs an extension during the upcoming campaign.

Otherwise, they might lose him for free, an entirely more palatable worst-case scenario than, say, losing a club legend with a €110 to €120 million valuation for nothing.

Unfortunately, there’s no prize for guessing who I’m on about.

Anyway, Singo made his Serie A debut for Torino in 2019-20, making four appearances. He appeared in 31 league matches in 2022-23, scoring two goals and adding two assists.

Next. The transfer rumour that will not fade. dark

I hope by the time you’ve read this article, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven signing. Wishful thinking, but by no means impossible. Just read slowly, very slowly.

And who knows, the Singo to Tottenham rumour might soon take flight.
