After a whirlwind few days, Tottenham looks to sign its sixth player of the transfer window, with Micky van de Ven reportedly on the verge of joining the club.

Personal terms are agreed upon. That much is clear.

However, that’s old news, as van de Ven, according to Fabrizio Romano, agreed to personal terms just under a week ago.

As usual, it’s up to the clubs to come to an accord. According to the Mirror, Tottenham is set to pay £30 million to land the 22-year-old centre-back.

Regarding transfer rumours, The Mirror is far from reliable. The sensationalist publication often spouts farfetched rumours to elevate its click count.

The Mirror has yet to publish an article detailing the specifics, only mentioning it briefly in its transfer roundup piece. While The Mirror’s scandalous reputation speaks for itself, it’s unlikely it would use such affirmative, unambiguous wording if it weren’t sure about the veracity.

Yet there is a vague sentence that leaves one wondering how close the teams are to reaching an agreement: “The two clubs are left to finalise the details,” which doesn’t sound like a done deal.

As of midnight on Tuesday morning, all was quiet on the Fabrizio Romano front, who offered a generic update earlier on Monday.

Then again, we might wake up early on Tuesday morning with a “Here we go soon!” from Fabrizio. Of course, that is the second-best scenario. The best would be seeing a “Here we go” as the sun rises.

Even if that dream situation doesn’t occur, Tottenham’s top brass, after its impressive recent negotiation record, deserves the benefit of the doubt, even a vote of confidence, something I would never have said in previous transfer windows.

The Athletic has jumped on the story in the last four hours, reinforcing the Mirror’s claim about the two clubs closing in on an agreement.

Next. The transfer rumour that will not fade. dark

So take some deep breaths, check a few long-winded, seemingly pointless emails, or grab a soothing cup of tea. Not too much milk, though, as a weak tea lacks conviction and substance, like a few of our players that should be cut loose.

While we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves, the prospect of van de Ven donning a Tottenham shirt becomes more likely by the hour.
