Scott Munn, Tottenham’s new chief football officer, deserves a reserved pat on the back for orchestrating the signing of Ange Postecoglou.

While Munn doesn’t officially start his new role until July 1, Postecoglou’s appointment has his fingerprints smattered all over it.

Munn spent a decade as the CEO of A-League side Melbourne City before taking over the Chinese operations of City Football Group.

Munn had to sit idly by from his cushy Melbourne City executive perch, watching Postecoglou’s Brisbane Roar not only dominate his side but every team in the A-League.

The Roar won successive A-League titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12, two of the three seasons Postecoglou was in charge.

Munn’s career path then led him to Asia, where he took on the role of chief executive of City Football Group (CFG) China, which owned Yokohama F Marinos, the Japanese club that Postecoglou led to the title in 2019 before taking over at Celtic in 2021.

You don’t have to be a savvy sleuth to add the simple arithmetic.

Munn clearly pitched Postecoglou to Daniel Levy, convincing the chairman about the Australian, whose philosophy is tailor-suited for Tottenham’s would-be revival.

No one knows whether Postecoglou’s tenure at Tottenham will end in glory or misery. That’s both the beauty and horror of sport.

But one thing is for sure: Munn deserves plaudits for convincing Levy and hand-picking the most qualified and accessible candidate.

Hopefully, Munn’s influence in poaching Postecoglou turns out better than it did for Fabio Paratici in 2021, when, as one of his first acts as director of football, he hired Nuno Espirito Santo. Sorry for drudging up that recurring nightmare.

Next. Looking at the formation Postecoglou will employ at Tottenham. dark

Munn, for now, deserves a reserved pat on the back. Let’s hope in time that reserved pat transforms into rapturous applause from 60,000 bellowing Tottenham supporters.
