Tottenham Hotspur very close to completing another key transfer
By Gary Pearson
Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of agreeing terms with Barcelona to land Clement Lenglet on a one-year loan deal, various sources confirm.
Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte are on an impressive signing rampage. The Italian duo are expected to land Lenglet in the coming days. He will join Tottenham on a one-year loan deal, where Spurs are expected to pay about £115 000 of his weekly £200 000 salary.
The 27-year-old made only seven La Liga starts for Barcelona in the 2021-22 campaign and is seen as a disposable member at the Nou Camp. The centre back will bolster Tottenham’s defence, presenting support for Eric Dier and Cristian Romero.
Lenglet will battle with Davinson Sanchez to be Spurs’ go-to reserve centre back. Of course Japhet Tanganga will do his utmost to win Conte’s consideration.
This signing represents another astute move from Spurs, whose status as a soon-to-be Premier League contender continually enhances under Conte and Paratici’s leadership.
The deal hasn’t been made official yet, but confirmation should come in the coming days, probably by Monday or Tuesday.
This news comes on the back of Spurs signing Richarlison from Everton for £60 million. Tottenham have signed four players — Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Fraser Forster — since the transfer window opened last month.
Excitment continues to grow in north London as the team gets set to depart for their pre-season tour in Korea.
Conte has managed to secure most of his desired signings with ample time to work on chemistry and the system prior to the commencement of the Premier League season in August.
