When Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of Richarlison, the addition of the Brazilian forward immediately improved Spurs in several ways.

Tottenham Hotspur has already had a busy transfer window, and it is only the start of July. With each signing, the excitement for the upcoming season grows. Although other positions may have had a greater need, and he may or may not start, the signing of Richarlison from Everton makes Tottenham better in several ways; here are five of them.

Richarlison provides Tottenham depth across the attacking line

For years, except for Carlos Vinicius, Spurs have struggled to find much in the way of cover for Harry Kane. Although not necessarily seen as an out-and-out striker in the mould of Kane, Richarlison is quite capable of leading the front line. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin in and out of the Everton line-up last season, Richarlison spent much of it playing centre-forward.

Beyond the striker position, Richarlison may be most effective as a left forward/wing. Although Spurs have one of the best in the world with Heung-min Son there, he too has had little cover the last few seasons.

Richarlison can even play in a deeper attacking midfielder role in a pinch. The Brazilian’s fondness for dribbling and his pace makes him a dangerous man with the ball in the middle of the park.

Whether covering for Kane, Son, or playing some other role, with the volume of games in the upcoming season, the versatility Richarlison provides creates depth in multiple places.
