Tottenham Hotspur has already added two new players to the club via free transfers. What other free transfer opportunities exist for Spurs to consider?

The first thing that comes to mind with the transfer window is often the big-money signings. However, it can often be the under-the-radar, free transfers that can make a significant impact on a team. Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping that is the case in 2022/23, as Spurs have leveraged free transfers to help fill some holes in the squad. With two free signings already complete for Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, Tottenham could do worse than digging deeper into the pool of free footballers.

Who should Tottenham consider with several big names available in the Premier League?

Between players out of contact and others let go by their club, there is a sizable list of Premier League footballers on the Release List and a few big names. Perhaps the biggest name on the list is someone who has had some real success with Spurs manager Antonio Conte.

It is highly unlike that Tottenham would sign Paul Pogba his summer; however, the Frenchman is available for free and had arguably his best seasons as a professional under Conte at Juventus. Pogba’s passing range could fit nicely at N17, but another mercurial French midfielder is not what the club needs.

Other midfielders available like Juan Mata, Joao Moutinho, Fabian Delph, and Nemanja Matic are all on the wrong side of 30. While the same could be said for Persicic, the Croatian was a productive and contributing footballer last season; that is not necessarily true for those other names.

Ultimately, when it comes to free midfielders, most fans want midfielder Christian Eriksen, who is available after his contract expired with Brentford.
