Transfer Update on Lautaro Martinez Pursuit Not Good For Tottenham
By Gary Pearson
Lautaro Martinez, another Inter Milan player on Tottenham’s transfer radar, has spoken about his desire to stay at the Italian club.
Martinez’s latest admission comes as a blow to Spurs’ hopes of luring the 24-year-old away from the San Siro.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Martinez is unwavering in his desire to stay at Inter for at least one more season.
The striker’s exact words were:
“My plan is clear: I really want to stay at Inter next season”. #transfers “I’ve not received communications from the club as of today, I want to continue at Inter next season”.
Tottenham have already poached Ivan Perisic from Inter and are in somewhat advanced discussions to pry Alessandro Bastoni away the Italian giants.
Martinez isn’t one of Tottenham’s primary transfer targets, but is most certainly on Fabio Paratici’s wish list, as the north London club looks for the best ways to ensure support arrives for Harry Kane, who has been operating on his own at the club for what seems like an eternity.
According to Transfermarkt.com, Martinez is valued at €70 million, almost half of Tottenham’s £175 million transfer kitty. Although Spurs will probably have more money to spend once they offload some players who are almost certainly departing for pastures anew.
Inter’s highly valued asset scored 21 goals and added three helpers in 35 Serie A appearances during the 2021-22 season in which Inter finished second, two points adrift of cross-town rivals AC Milan.
Martinez is under contract at Inter until the conclusion of the 2026 season.
Hopefully there is some room to convince Martinez, who appears steadfast in his wish to remain in Milan. With Antonio Conte and Paratici doing the talking, there’s always a chance the Argentinian will change his mind.
But for now this potential transfer is stuck in a hip-deep bog of mud.
