Best of the rest at Tottenham – Cristian Romero

Despite missing a significant part of the season, in the 30 times, Romero has dawned the white of Tottenham this season; he has been immense.

The Argentine has endeared himself to the Spurs faithful in his debut campaign, and although he is still only on loan at N17, he will undoubtedly become a permanent fixture this summer.

When he has played, Romero has terrified opponents. His aggressive, high-pressure style of defending affords his adversaries no time unopposed on the ball, often making crunching tackles to regain possession for the side.

If any, the only qualm with Romero this season could be his tendency to pick up needless bookings. However, recently, even that seems to have disappeared from his game, with his last booking coming in mid-March against Brighton.

Alongside being an astute defender, Romero has also been pivotal when playing out from the back. His ability to find a pass in tight areas allows Spurs’ to beat presses and transition play quickly, which is a crucial aspect of Conte’s tactics.

Fans will be eager to see the Argentine in full swing again next season, hopefully for the whole campaign; as his nickname suggests, he has unquestionably been a Rolls Royce of a defender since joining.
