Bright spots from Tottenham Hotspur’s big win over Leicester
By Aaron Coe
Following two sub-par performances, Tottenham Hotspur was back in the win column with a strong performance against Leicester City, here are three bright spots from Spurs’ big win.
It was not a classic, free-flowing performance from Tottenham Hotspur, but Spurs did enough to have a three-goal lead as the clock hit 90 minutes. While Spurs were not dominant, there were several positives as Tottenham bounced back with a big win to stay in the top four race. So what was positive for Tottenham in the victory?
Cristian Romero is back to his dominant best
He was not alone in playing below his level, but Cristian Romero’s drop-in play over the last couple of weeks significantly impacted results. On Sunday against the Foxes, Romero was back to his marauding best as he dominated the ball defensively.
Romero was doing it all defensively with three interceptions, five clearances, and three tackles. Add in some strong play in the air, and it was an all-around outstanding defensive performance for Romero.
Perhaps more than any time during the game, Romero’s back-to-back tackles leading to Son’s first goal demonstrated how a defender could change the game.
Romero’s first tackle on the play prevented a potential break for Leicester with Emerson Royal on the turf. The second tackle started the attack, which led to the second goal. It was a terrific sequence for Romero and showed the influence he can have on the game when he is on form.
