Tottenham Hotspur steamrolled Aston Villa 0-4, taking a step toward finishing in the top four while making a statement to their competition.

The uneven and inconsistent form which plagued Tottenham Hotspur at the start of 2022 seems to be in Spurs’ rearview mirror. Spurs were running on all cylinders in the second half against Aston Villa, cruising past the Villians by four goals and creating some space in the table simultaneously.

Big turnaround for Tottenham

Less than a month ago, Tottenham was coming off their second loss of the season to Manchester United, as Ronaldo hit a hattrick. That loss left Spurs in seventh place and needed some help. Since then, Tottenham has not lost, while United and Arsenal have both slipped up, giving Spurs the space to make a significant move in the table.

Spurs were already making noise with four straight wins, but the four-goal drubbing of a solid midtable Villa team made a statement and left Spurs with a three-point lead over Arsenal in the race for fourth, although the Gunners have a game in hand. It is quite a turnaround.

Spurs show killer instinct

Quite possibly, the best thing about the last two Tottenham wins, especially the second half against Villa, was the emphatic nature of the victory. Last season Spurs struggled to put teams away and lost many leads. Now, the Lilywhites are looking for blood in the water and are attacking when they find it.

Despite taking a two-goal lead early in the second half, Spurs did not wait for Villa to bounce back as they did in the first 45-minutes. Instead, Tottenham continued to pressure defensively and looked to push and counter. The relentless nature of the attack, which continued with the substitutes, should make every Spurs fan happy.

If you are Tottenham, nothing is won at this point in the season but scoring 14 goals while conceding only two over the last four matches shows a team hitting its peak at the right time. If Spurs can continue this form, they will take the top four.
