Only one change in Tottenham Hotspur team to face Manchester United
By Aaron Coe
Tottenham Hotspur makes only one injury-enforced change in the starting XI to face Manchester United in a must-win Premier League game on the back of consecutive league wins.
Having won two in a row in the league – and forgetting about a poor FA Cup exit – Tottenham Hotspur is looking to take some momentum into their match-up with Manchester United at Old Trafford. As such, Antonio Conte has made only one injury-enforced change in his starting XI as Sergio Reguilon comes in for the injured Ryan Sessegnon.
Conte is looking for consistency with Tottenham
Whereas Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho preferred to tinker with their starting XI constantly, Tottenham’s last two managers, Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte, have been working to create a regular starting XI.
For Nuno, injuries, covid absences, and a less than fully engaged Harry Kane eventually left his efforts to create a solid starting XI for naught. Also suffering from injuries to his squad, Conte has committed to finding a consistent XI for Tottenham, which continues in a massive match-up against Manchester United.
Unfortunate for Sessegnon
Just when Ryan Sessegnon had seemingly found a place in the squad and had started to improve with each performance, the young Englishman again finds himself on the trainer’s table. This latest knock, his third since Conte arrived, gives Reguilon another chance to earn back his spot that was lost as much from a covid absence as anything.
Besides the one change, we see Conte opting for that consistency this team desperately needs to find.
Spurs facing another favourable match-up?
The starting line-up may reflect as much as anything else: Spurs are facing a third straight team where we can expect an open game. It is pretty unlikely that Manchester United will sit back defensively at home, which means Spurs will again have some space to play within the attack.
The front three of Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-min Son, and Kane have been linking up well, and fans will hope to see that again on Saturday. Ultimately, finding a consistent 11 may be the answer for a team looking for consistency, which we will know better in a few hours.
