1. Missed too many opportunities

In similar fashion to the last time these teams met, Tottenham were snakebitten in front of goal. Sergio Reguilon missed a sitter on a brilliant feed from Harry Kane in the first half. The Spaniard kept he ball down but couldn’t find a way to beat Fraser Forster. He simply cannot afford to miss those type of sitters.

After the break, the roles were reversed, with Kane missing a sitter at the back post. Reguilon this time turned provider, swinging a pinpoint cross to the back stick for Kane, whose resulting header went straight into the ground before bouncing off the bar and over.

Sonny also got in on the act, bottling a chance handed to him by a colossal Southampton error.

Later Tottenham were robbed of a penalty call when Kane ventured offside. That was followed by what appeared to be a last-gasp equalizer. However, Steven Bergwijn had wondered marginally offside. VAR swiftly and decisively spoiled the Dutchman’s party.

While outplayed, Tottenham still had more than enough chances to walk away with all three points or at least a share of the spoils. And that will irritate to no end those who missed sitters.
