Defence

Hugo Lloris 8/10

The Frenchman kept Tottenham level in the first half. He made two exquisite saves, one a two-legged save from close range and the other a diving save off of James Ward-Prowse’s long-range effort. He was an extremely busy keeper but held his ground. Though he struggled ever so slightly with his aerial command on crosses. No chance on any of the three goals.

Ben Davies 5/10

Ben Davies endured a mixed bag, which included a calamitous mistake on Southampton’s opener. The Welshman slipped and scoffed his clearance. He was mediocre otherwise. But mediocre isn’t good enough in a match of this magnitude.

Cristiano Romero 6.5/10

The Argentine had a few misplaced passes and held on to the ball for slightly too long once. Otherwise, he was committed, made a few full-blooded challenged and showed great poise. Once he gets fully into the swing of things, Romero will be a force to be reckoned with. He wasn’t culpable for any of the conceded goals.

Davinson Sanchez 5/10

Davinson endured a night of regression. He works his socks off and sprints around like an uncaged terrier. However, he was caught wildly out of position on a through ball from Kyle Walker-Peters, which Sanchez was favoured to win. He was caught on his heels and couldn’t make up the ground, leaving Armando Broja through on goal. Luckily, he pulled the ball horribly wide. His positioning is often questionable.
