Three reasons Dejan Kulusevski fits into Conte’s plans at Tottenham
By Gary Pearson
1. Kulu is defensively sound
When compared to other attacking midfielders, Kulu’s defensive prowess rises to the top. Conte adores players who are responsible in every facet. The old cliche that defence starts from the front is something Conte lives by. He expects everyone, including his frontmen, to put in a defensive shift, at least harrying the opposition rearguard and making life difficult.
Well Kulu definitely goest the extra mile defensively. Though we didn’t see too much of it yesterday, Kulu is incredibly responsible without the ball, tracks back, pressure intensely and unremittingly and enjoys committing to the tackle.
He is in the top 20 percentile of the following defensive stats, when compared to other attacking midfielders: tackles, tackles won, tackles in the defensive third, attempted pressures, successful pressures, pressures in the defensive third, pressures in the middle third, pressures in the attacking third.
Still wondering why Conte since he arrived at Tottenham had Kulu in his crosshairs?
