Tottenham, via Paul O Keefe, considering late swoop for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé
By Gary Pearson
There still might be some late drama left in the transfer window, as Tottenham purportedly consider a late move for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé.
The latest rumours come from journalist Paul O Keefe.
The midfielder, after Adama Traore’s arrival, is now seen as a surplus in Barcelona.
While a deal at this late stage is unlikely, stranger things have certainly happened. The 24-year-old is out of contract in June and will almost certainly leave Barcelona in the summer. Manchester United is still the frontrunner to land Dembélé, but Spurs, whose presence is still on the periphery at this stage, are now, if O Keefe’s rumour is substantiated, seen as an interested party.
Dembélé is valued at about €30 million by Transfermarkt.com. Barcelona swooped in while Spurs were negotiating with Traore and convinced the Spaniard to sign on the dotted line. Considering Traore’s long-time affiliation with Barcelona, that wasn’t difficult for the Catalan club.
Now it’s thought that Spurs might be able to turn Dembélé’s head after Barcelona signed his replacement and Tottenham’s original, primary target.
At the moment this rumour is still speculative, but things might progress in the coming hours. They also might fizzle out and amount to nothing more than Twitter fodder. However, it’s worth keeping an eye on as the transfer window inches closer to tomorrow’s 11 pm deadline.
