Tottenham’s thrilling comeback last night at the King Power Stadium brought Tottenham nation to life, reminding many of the miracle in Amsterdam three years ago.

Nobody is debating the gap in consequence between last night’s inconceivable 3-2 win over Leicester and the historic comeback victory in the Champions League semifinal against Ajax almost three years ago.

That’s not to say Bergwijn’s last-gasp brace isn’t incredibly important. After all, it could mean the difference between Champions League and Europa League participation.

Most supporters thought the nature of Tottenham’s comeback in Amsterdam in 2019 might never repeat itself. Cue Steven Bergwijn’s heroics in injury time in the Midlands. His odds-defying goals came two minutes apart, in the 95th and 97th minute, spreading sheer joy and inciting unchecked raw emotion amongst supporters.

Eerily similar to that epic, unforgettable night in Amsterdam, Bergwijn captured the imagination of a club’s entire support base. He also showed many what it is like to feel the irrepressible emotion a child does so often. And as adults supporting Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, those moments are as rare as they are precious.

Nostalgia is often a fleeting, yet enjoyable emotion. Sometimes it can sweep us away from reality, if only temporarily. Bergwijn’s brace at the death incited widespread nostalgia, bringing us back to Tottenham’s most epic comeback win in the club’s storied 139-year history. If there is a more epic comeback win, please educate me.

Lucas Moura accomplished that feat in May 2019, when the Brazilian scored a hat trick to book Spurs’ place in the Champions League final. Moura will always be remembered for his second half hat trick, his last goal coming in the 96th minute to secure the famous victory.

While wildly different occasions, it felt eerily and magnificently familiar when Bergwijn’s second when in off the post with Tottenham’s last touch. Regardless of his well-documented struggles at the club, Bergwijn’s remarkable cameo will live forever in supporter’s minds. It will be etched permanently in Tottenham folklore.

Next. Three positives from thrilling 3-2 win that bode well for Tottenham. dark

He brought back to life many supporter’s most cherished memory.

And for that we thank him deeply, even if it doesn’t prevent him from leaving the club in the coming weeks.
