A number of reasons Tottenham’s Tangagna isn’t going anywhere yet
By Gary Pearson
The latest rumour out of the forever-churning Sky Sports Transfer Centre has AC Milan contemplating a loan move for Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga.
Now I know you’re probably thinking the same thing I was when I first read the headline. An instantaneous, not Sky Sports again! That thought was quickly followed by, wait a second, Japhet, not more than a week ago, was rumoured to be heading to Juventus as part of a swap deal.
Such is the frenzied, addictive madness of silly season. I almost forgot to mention maddening.
Japhet has every right to want more match time. But based on his discernibly lacklustre last two weeks, does he really deserve more responsibility?
Absolutely not.
That, however, would be an extreme, harsh and unfair judgement based on a snapshot of an all-too-brief period on a player who has, comparatively speaking, ascended to imperious heights in relatively short order. His big break, I’m sure you’ll recall, came against Liverpool two years ago last week under Jose Mourinho’s stewardship.
Again, he has every right to want more playing time. What professional footballer doesn’t? But is AC Milan the answer? It could be, but it’s not just one hurdle preventing this deal from happening. There’s a 110-metre track laden with the three-and-a-half feet tall impediments standing in this deal’s way.
