January can be a difficult market for making a number of transfer moves, however, to say the winter window is any kind of success, Tottenham Hotspur must make these two moves.

There is no reason to expect a big transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur. With no business outside a couple of youth players being loaned, Spurs are not looking very active thus far. The good news is that there are still two weeks left in the window, which should be enough time to get some deals done.

While there are several moves that need to be done to continue the needed overhaul at N17, there are two moves, in particular, Tottenham needs to get done in January to call the window a success.

Tottenham must move Tanguy Ndombele

There are several players who need to move on from Tottenham Way. Dele Alli could probably use a change of scenery, Joe Rodon needs to get some minutes, and Steven Bergwijn seemed wanted by Ajax. Although those players could be moved, the one player Tottenham most needs to move is Tanguy Ndombele.

Since coming to Spurs from Lyon in the summer of 2019, Ndombele has been a massive disappointment.

Costing more than £60 million, Spurs will be lucky if they can get £30 million for the French midfielder. Scoring on his debut, and ultra-talented with the ball at his feet, Ndombele Tanguy has struggled to find any kind of consistent time and often looks disinterested on the pitch.

To put things into perspective, Tanguy has played only four fewer matches for Tottenham (92) than he had for Lyon (96), however, Ndombele has played almost 2,000 fewer minutes. Ndombele played 7,152 minutes across 96 matches for Lyon and has played 5,182 minutes in his 92 appearances for Spurs. At nearly 20 minutes less per appearance, Ndombele has just not had the kind of impact everyone hoped when he was signed for such a massive fee.

While Ndombele has scored some his inconsistent intensity has led to inconsistent minutes and an inconsistent player. Reportedly training with the youth teams, Ndombele needs to be sold.

Tottenham have to sign a striker

Ideally, Spurs get cover and competition for Harry Kane in the form of Dušan Vlahović. The Serbian striker can do many of the things Kane can do and would create a lethal partnership with the Tottenham talisman.

However, the reality is if Vlahović is going to move, and that is still a very big if, it is most likely not going to be until the summer. Despite that, Tottenham must get another forward who can lead the line with and in place of Harry Kane.

We have heard very little on how long Heung-min Son will be out and Kane is likely already running on fumes. Kane has already played 28 times for over 2,200 minutes. Likely the weekend off from the north London derby was as important for Kane as it was for Arsenal.

Tottenham has gone far too long without cover for their star and Conte has been vocal about it. It is particularly strange that some kind of cover was not brought in during the summer given the links of Kane to Manchester City. However, that was a different coach and time and Conte needs a second striker to have options and to have some cover.

Next. Is door open for Spurs to sign Traore. dark

We may not see much business from Tottenham in this window but we need to see Ndombele go and some cover for Kane comes in to even start to call this transfer market a success.
