In typical fashion, if Duncan Castles is to be believed, Tottenham aren’t currently involved in any transfer negotiations with Wolves over Adama Traore.

Not more than a few days ago numerous reliable sources were pointing to the likeliness of the prospective deal between Wolves and Spurs happening. But the latest news from Castles, the Sunday Times football correspondent, tells a contradictory tale.

This speculation, if verified, will anger deeply throngs of supporters. Contrarily, it will relieve, even delight, just as many of Tottenham’s faithful, such is the polarizing nature of Traore, the man dubbed by some supporters as “Mr. No Final Product.”

Regardless of which side of the fence you sit, the latest news further emboldens Tottenham’s angering transfer ineptness. Dozens of rumours have amounted to nothing. This such rumour in particular has taken Spurs supporters on a maddening emotional roller coaster.

Most rumours are entirely speculative. Of course they come from a mixture of reliable and dubious sources. Some rumours pick up momentum and are further verified by numerous other reputable sources. While most, like what you received as a gift last birthday, fade into the distance.

Even fewer amount to anything substantive. This was one of the few you started to believe could actually happen. Apparently not, though Tottenham supporters by now know they must take all rumours and speculation with a grain of salt.

Right now there is apparently no ongoing negotiations between Wolves and Spurs over Traore. That could be true, though it might not be. Who knows. The Wolves winger scored his first Premier League goal today, and Bruno Lage was unequivocal in his latest comments, saying he expects Traore to be a Wolves player come Feb. 1.

Again, that status could change in the blink of an eye, but for now anyway, Tottenham, who still purportedly haven’t made an opening bid, are no closer to making their first signing than they were at the start of the transfer period.

No Tottenham supporters will be surprised by that news, as yet another wildly frustrating, thus far inactive, transfer period ticks away.
