A report from Spanish publication Sport mentions Adama Traore’s desire to return to Barcelona, creating a potential impediment for Tottenham in their pursuit of Wolves’ winger.

Traore plied his trade with Barcelona between 2013 and 2015, but only made four appearances in all competitions for the Catalan giants. The two years he spent in Barcelona are some of the fondest of the 25 year old’s career. He was born in Barcelona and has a timeless emotive connection with his hometown.

Barcelona are enduring one of the worst financial crises of its long, storied history, and have almost no war chest to secure new talent. However, Traore wouldn’t cost more than £25 million and is seen as a viable replacement for Ousmane Dembélé, whose contract expires in June.

Although the new development could potentially put a slight spanner in the works, the prospective deal with Tottenham is still more likely. Sport mentions Traore’s desire to eventually return to Barcelona, but puts no immediate timeline on the winger’s wish to return to Spain.

Barcelona hasn’t publicly stated any interest in Traore and don’t require his services until Dembélé’s future is decided. That probably won’t happen until the end of the season, and Wolves won’t sit idly by while the Catalan club ponders Dembélé’s future.

Traore enjoys life in the Premier League and has developed an affinity for life in England. While a contract offer from his hometown club would probably have an almost immediate wooing effect, there is no such commitment forthcoming offer.

So for now the probability of Traore’s arrival in north London hasn’t diminished much. This story is extremely fluid, though, so things could change as fast as it takes Traore to cover 60 metres.
