Hugo Lloris‘ contract is set to expire in June, but there’s good reason to indicate the Tottenham captain will put pen to paper on a one-year extension.

The 35-year-old World Cup winner arrived at Tottenham almost 10 years ago. Aug. 31 will mark the decorated keeper’s 10-year anniversary at the club, which, based on recent reports and logic, he’ll be around to celebrate.

Conte also believes that Lloris will stay at Tottenham and recently gave the keeper his vote of confidence after the Watford win, saying:

"“I am sure in a short time they can find a solution because he loves Tottenham and Tottenham loves him. Hugo today showed he is a top player and always focussed. For us he is very important.”"

While there won’t be any shortage of suitors desirous of signing the wily veteran, it seems unlikely, especially now, that Lloris will depart the club he’s devoted almost a third of his life to.

First, Tottenham are in the inchoate stage of an exciting revolution under the reign of one of the world’s best managers. Conte is a proven winner and, given time and the appropriate financial backing, has an excellent chance of ending Tottenham’s barren, 13-year trophy-less patch.

Lloris would gravely regret leaving the club if Spurs were to win a trophy in the immediate aftermath of his exodus. Of course two more chances, in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, to capture silverware remain this season, though one hopes Hugo has already put pen to paper before Tottenham wins a trophy.

No one deserves a club trophy more than Hugo. He’s waited 10 agonizing years to win one. If he decides to leave, being a World Cup winner will surely help alleviate the sorrow of not winning with Spurs. But it feels like his unfinished business in north London, especially with so much promise and optimism in the air, will keep him from leaving.

Lloris will sign a one-year extension and explore other options thereafter. That way he can return to France, trophy in hand, when he’s 36, content and at peace, keen on enjoying his final few years before hanging his gloves up for good.
