Tottenham have received some encouraging news about Ryan Sessegnon‘s injury status ahead of the weekend’s FA Cup match against Morecambe.

Sessegnon suffered a muscle injury in the 2-2 home draw against Liverpool on Dec. 19. The injury occurred just as the 21-year-old started to gain favour with Antonio Conte and the coaching staff.

The left wingback is expected to be available on Sunday against the League One side, presenting a perfect opportunity to gain some much needed match time. The 3rd round FA Cup clash takes place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which will provide the likes of Sessegnon more space to maneuver against a physically unforgiving lower league side.

The good news is a solid boost for Conte, who can use all the reinforcements he can get, especially with his side having to make up three postponed Premier League matches, against Burnley, Leicester and Brighton, in the coming months.

The Englishman offers an excellent second option for Conte on the left, and the manager will hope Sessegnon can find an extended healthy spell in the first team. Injuries have plagued Sessegnon’s ability to get a sustained run in the team.

Unsurprisingly, Sessegnon’s debut at Tottenham, after arriving in the summer of 2019, was delayed due to a long-term hamstring injury he suffered with Fulham. It was a sign of things to come for Sessegnon, who, with various ailments and fitness concerns, has been forced out of Tottenham’s lineup five times.

His longest absence saw him miss 14 games over 74 days, from September to November of 2021. Here’s hoping this latest muscle injury setback is the last he’ll be forced to endure for the foreseeable future.
