Reports suggest Tottenham Hotspur is addressing biggest need in market
By Aaron Coe
According to reports from Fabrizio Romano and the words of our own coach Antonio Conte, Tottenham Hotspur is working on a contract extension until 2023, with Hugo Lloris.
We all know Tottenham Hotspur has needs in the transfer market with players who need to leave and new blood to integrate but Spurs’ biggest hole may soon be filled. There are reports coming out and we even have the words of Conte suggesting that the future of Hugo Lloris will continue to be at Tottenham Hotspur, which is a good thing for Spurs.
Lloris is an in-demand keeper
At nearly 400 appearances for the club, and over 130 clean sheets – including five in his last eight Premier League games – Hugo Lloris has been a mainstay at Tottenham Hotspur for a decade. And keeping Lloris at Tottenham should be a major priority for Fabio Paratici and Conte.
While Fabrizio Romano is suggesting a new contract is close, there has also already been interest from other clubs.

According to the Sun, one option for Lloris is to return to France and connect back with former club Nice.
While going to Nice is probably not his first choice, the reality is Nice is not the only team in France or elsewhere interested in Lloris’ services, if Tottenham decides not to resign the club captain to an extension.
Keeper is a real need for Tottenham
This is not a situation where Tottenham should take their time and see what the market says, the reality is Spurs need Lloris.
If you look at the Tottenham goalkeeper situation, academy product Brandon Austin and Atalanta loanee Pierluigi Gollini have done nothing to prove they are the future #1 at the club. Without a clear successor – like say Dean Henderson behind David de Gea at Manchester United – the club is playing a dangerous game with possibly the most vital position on the pitch.
Lloris did not have a lot to do against Watford, however, a keeper even a split second slower off his line would have conceded a penalty and not all keepers are going to make the kind of fingertip save Lloris did, to preserve the tie, which Spurs eventually won 0-1.
Fans may want a new striker, a creative player, even some new wing-backs, but for Tottenham to bring the trophy we all crave, Spurs need to secure Lloris for at least one more season and that should be the first priority of the January window.
