Less than 48 hours after beating a 10-man Palace, Tottenham Hotspur could not find a way to top 10-man Southampton in a disappointing 1-1 draw. How did Spurs players rate?

If there can possibly be a winner in a draw, it was clearly Southampton. The Saints were better than Spurs until going to 10-men. Even after dropping to 10-men, the organization and deep block of Southampton kept Tottenham at bay, leaving Antonio Conte‘s side frustrated over a big missed opportunity with two dropped points in the 1-1 draw.

Although Tottenham found a way to put the ball in the net four times on the day, only one of the four goals counted and Spurs were left wanting. Here are our ratings from the dissatisfying draw.

Rating Tottenham Forwards

Tottenham went with a 3-5-2 formation as Conte used a little rotation, leaving only Harry Kane and Heung-min Son up front for Spurs.

Harry Kane – 7

Spurs’ talisman was an extremely active man at St. Mary’s, particularly in the first half, when he was the focal point of the Tottenham attack, trying to play hold-up in the middle of the pitch against a very aggressive Saints defence. Kane did well to distribute the ball then and place a perfect penalty to tie the game before the half. In the second half as Southampton pushed deeper into a defensive block, Kane saw less and less of the ball, particularly after his painfully VAR ruled out goal on a questionable offsides call.

Heung-min Son – 7

Whereas Kane was central to the attack in the first half, Heung-min Son’s constant movement made him the more active forward in the second half, when the South Korean had four of his five shots on the day. It was Son who was painfully hacked down in the box in the first half to earn Spurs’ penalty. Unlucky not to get an assist on some nice set pieces and just lacking that extra bit of luck or quality to beat Forster on the day.
