Tottenham Hotspur again plays the last game of match week 12 and has the benefit of the results, which gives Spurs another opportunity to gain ground.

If Tottenham fans were to determine who won and lost the matches on Saturday in the Premier League, the results would have been more or less exactly what they were in real life. Nine teams within a point of Tottenham or ahead of Spurs played on Saturday and six of the nine dropped points. With hopes high for a good performance, again Tottenham can try to climb the table.

Realistically speaking, Tottenham’s league target is top four, so Liverpool and Chelsea winning have little real impact. Well besides the fact that the Reds and Blues beat Arsenal and Leicester City, which definitely helps Tottenham.

Even with a win Sunday, Spurs will still be a point behind the Gunners and despite the Foxes’ poor season, they are only one point behind our Lilywhites and still have a better goal differential. Just as important, Manchester United again lost as did Brighton and Hove Albion who are both ahead of Tottenham by a single point.

Maybe the one match that did not end perfectly was West Ham and Wolverhampton. Although the team Spurs most needed to drop points, the Hammers did drop all three, Wolves moved into sixth three points in front of Tottenham with the win.

With a superior goal difference, tied with Wolves but behind on goals is the best result Tottenham can hope for at the end of the weekend, leaving Spurs 7th. In the process, Spurs would leapfrog United, Brighton, and Crystal Palace, who jumped the Lilywhites with a draw on Saturday. Additionally, a win would give Spurs some breathing room on the bottom half, which is just a point back heading in.

Spurs really do need to win vs Leeds. The club has struggled to really leverage these opportunities since failing to catch Antonio Conte‘s Chelsea several years ago. After a draw with Everton in Conte’s first match, three big points, to move Spurs four slots up the table would be huge in the Italian’s first home league game in charge.
