The decision of the Premier League to pause next season for the World Cup is a huge relief to many teams, not the least of which is Tottenham Hotspur.

The decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar was always going to be one that had ripple effects across the sport. The recent sale of Newcastle to a conglomerate from Saudia Arabia is but one of the many that have cascaded across the sport.

Early on a major concern for the players was reduced. With the extreme summer temperatures in Qatar, a major concern the tournament was moved from the summer to the winter to be played from mid-November through the final December 18. This is in the middle of the Premier League season and likely left some teams ecstatic while others, like Tottenham who have more than an XI of internationals worried.

Premier League eases Tottenham concern

Today, it was announced y the Premier League that they will change the dates of next season and pause in the middle of the season for the World Cup.

For Tottenham, this is huge, just as it is for all the players and countries involved. That break in the middle of the season allows players to serve their country without causing a huge ordeal for all the teams and players involved. Unlike the decision over the away kits to raise money for charity, the Premier League is getting this one right.

According to the statement, the league will pause following matchday 16 over the weekend of November 12-13. With call-ups on Monday, November 14, players should not miss any time. For those who reach the final, they will have just over a week off as the league will not resume until Boxing day.

For Antonio Conte and Spurs, and many other teams this is a welcome announcement, for the league, it is a big move and hopefully does not give any life to the idea of a World Cup every two years but that is for another day.
