Reasons Tottenham fans should be excited with Antonio Conte appointment
By Aaron Coe
Tottenham Hotspur finally did it, Spurs stepped up as a club and went for it in landing Antonio Conte as the next manager, and as such fans should be excited.
After a very disappointing appointment and tenure for Nuno Espirito Santo, Tottenham Hotspur is moving on in a big way. Antonio Conte in his own words is a serial winner. His passion and record for winning are just two of several reasons, Spurs fans should be excited about this appointment.
Tottenham finally is showing some intent
After a terrible summer search that dragged on for far too long and ended up basically where it started – with a defensive-minded Portuguese coach – Tottenham went about things differently this time. With real speed and intent and with only one real target Spurs got the best coach possible.
Lots of names were again connected with the job but only one had already won league titles in multiple leagues with multiple teams. Graham Potter, Paulo Fonseca, Mauricio Pochettino, and Erik ten Hag are all fine coaches but none have the pedigree of Conte.
Given the need to get a team with aging superstars to re-engage, only a major name was going to do the trick. We all saw what playing for Jose Mourinho did for Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min. With Conte, we should start to see the same kind of production without the same kind of drama that surrounded Mourinho’s tenure at N17.
Conte is going to make the demands Tottenham fans have long wanted to see
Maybe the most exciting thing about Conte is his reputation for man-management. There is no misunderstanding about where players stand or what a player needs to be doing, there is just reality.
The reality in Conte’s world is giving a total commitment to the club and that is demonstrated through actions on the training ground and pitch.
For far too long, Spurs have lacked passion. A passion that had been growing with this team for years and was erased by a stupid handball in Madrid. That spark that Pochettino had brought died that day and nothing has since brought it back.
Mourinho ignited that fire in spells but ultimately, there were far too many factors conspiring against Mourinho for him to succeed. Many fans were simply hoping for him to fail. That is not the case with Conte, where the universal opinion of fans seems to be one of true excitement. An excitement founded on the idea that the fire seemingly extinguished for this Tottenham side can return.
This belief is based on the idea that under Conte you have to perform and put out to be in his squad. With the pedigree, minus the baggage, to garner instant respect; these players all know this is one last chance before this team gets blown up. If you are going to give things one last go, why not do it with one of the best in the world, and for that all Spurs fans should be excited.
