Tottenham’s front four combined expertly in spearheading the away side to an impressive 3-2 victory against Newcastle on Tyneside.

As expected, Newcastle started the match like a house on fire, buoyed by the news of the recent takeover. But Spurs settled well after going down early, showing the composure and resilience Nuno has been trying to extract from his side.

Aside from the opening few minutes, Tottenham controlled proceedings and showed signs of returning to their fluid best. Nuno’s men reacted brilliantly after going down early. The party atmosphere on Tyneside was quickly quieted when Tanguy Ndombele smashed home the equalizer.

Pierre Hojberg and Oliver Skipp controlled midfield while Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, Tanguy Ndombele, and Harry Kane ran rampant over a befuddled Newcastle defence.

Ndombele made a few wayward decisions but was otherwise lively throughout. He scored the first goal and was also influential in Tottenham’s third, swiveling out of trouble to find Lucas Moura in an intelligent and skillful passage of play.

Lucas Moura took over where Ndombele left off, as the Brazilian showed a crafty bit of skill in tight quarters before knocking through for Harry Kane, who was always going to find Sonny at the back post for a simple tap in.

Kane also got in on the scoring act, ending his scoring drought in style, finishing a sublime through ball from Hojberg. Spurs’ talisman beat the offside trap and lobbed Karl Darlow with a fantastic bit of skill to put Spurs up 2-1.

Tottenham’s game management after the interval was, aside from a shocking Eric Dier own goal, perfect. They didn’t allow Newcastle an opportunity to get back into the match, something Nuno will take great confidence in. Nuno’s side created numerous more chances in the second half and could have extended their lead.

Based on the frenzied atmosphere pre-game, Nuno will be extremely happy with the way his side reacted to a difficult away test.

Spurs held out and deservedly secured all three points, which Nuno can use as a stepping stone as his side prepares for a London derby against West Ham a week from today.
