Tottenham Hotspur will play a lot bigger matches than the one they will play against Newcastle at St. James Park. However, in terms of importance, there are a number of reasons, Sunday is a must-win game for Spurs.

Newcastle is a team Tottenham should be

The reality is, Newcastle is likely to be in a relegation battle much of the season. Even with a potentially enormous piggy bank in January, only so much can change with a team during one season. So far this season, the Toon have really struggled, managing only three points from three draws through seven matches.

Newcastle scores goals, averaging more than Spurs at 1.14 per match – Tottenham is at .86 – however, the Magpies concede 2.29 goals per match, compared to just 1.43 for Tottenham. With no clean sheets and sitting 18th in the table coming in, Newcastle is a team that Tottenham should beat and as such, they need to.

Tottenham are looking for some revenge

Last season, could have easily been six points from six for Tottenham against Newcastle, however, a couple of late goals, including a dubious penalty meant Spurs only took two points from the six possible against Newcastle.

Beyond being a team Spurs should beat, Tottenham might just be looking for a bit of revenge from those two losses. If anything the team should have learned that not building on a one-goal lead left the door open and the Toon were willing to walk right through. With the pain of four lost points, still fresh a little revenge should be in order for Spurs.
