Covid results muddy projected XI for Tottenham Hotspur at Newcastle

Tottenham Projected Midfield
The midfield has been problematic for Spurs all season already as Santo has struggled to find the balance necessary to provide support for both the offense and the defence. What we do know is that two of the three players are written in from the off, the question is who is the creative third.
Pierre Hojbjerg – Midfield
Whether Tottenham is playing with two deep midfielders or just a single deep midfielder, we can count on Pierre Hojbjerg being out there likely playing in a box-to-box role. Hojbjerg continues to improve on the attacking side of things and his work rate makes him nearly undroppable. Hojbjerg needs to continue to grow his game given the touches he commands on the pitch.
Oliver Skipp – Defensive Midfield
In just a few short months, Oliver Skipp has shown himself to be nearly undroppable in the middle of the pitch for Spurs. While not a driving force on the ball, Skipp is good at recycling play, and given the opportunity he will push forward. Skipp’s best attribute is his commitment to positioning and being right where the team needs him to help break-up play in the midfield. Against Newcastle, even on the road, Spurs should not need two deep midfielders, so Skipp protecting the back-line is going to be vital to success.
Tanguy Ndombele – Attacking Midfield
Giovani Lo Celso continues to show with Argentina that maybe he will ultimately be the man to take the reigns in the #10 hole for Spurs. However, coming off a match in South American less than 3 days prior, Lo Celso is not as likely to play as some defenders may be. Ndombele has been able to get the ball in good places this season but his passing in the final third has left a lot to be desired. If Ndombele can start connecting on some of his forward passing in the final third, Spurs will start creating more chances.
