Things going right for Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham Hotspur
By Aaron Coe
Neither Tottenham Hotspur nor Nuno Espirito Santo has been great in the early part of the season. However, the Lilywhites are doing enough to be in the mix. Here are some things Santo and Spurs are getting right.
Santo and Spurs are breaking in some youth
Last season one of the gripes about playing under Jose Mourinho was that the team got older. Even his signings like Matt Doherty and Joe Hart were older, more established players. While not our number one choice, one of the promising points associated with Nuno’s hire was that he was good at developing and using younger players.
Since arriving at Tottenham, some by choice and some by force – due to injuries and availability – Nuno has certainly played a younger team. 21-year-old Oliver Skipp has become a fixture in the squad and rightfully so.
Right-back, which was an issue last year and coming into the offseason, seems renewed with two credible and developing 22-year-old defenders. Bryan Gil (20) is starting to see more minutes and even teenager Dane Scarlett (17) has consistently been on the bench for the senior team and has played over 180 minutes with the first team this season according to transfermarkt.com.
If fans and the club wanted to see younger players get an opportunity and develop both are happening under Nuno’s watch.
