It was not the prettiest win we have ever seen for Tottenham Hotspur but the win over Aston Villa on Sunday could be very significant in Spurs season.

Coming into the match against Villa, the teams were trending in opposite directions. Tottenham had lost three straight matches in relatively humiliating fashion and seemed a team on the brink. Alternatively, Villa had won two of their last three matches, including a big 0-1 win at Old Trafford the weekend prior.

Suffice it to say that Villa was the hotter team coming in and it showed early in the match as the Claret and Blue Armey dominated the first five minutes of the match. However, Tottenham recovered from a second-half Villa goal and took all three points behind Lucas Moura/Matt Targett‘s tap-in.

The win counts the same as any other three points, however, as far as wins impacting a season, this one has a chance to be a major turning point. Here are three reasons the 2-1 win over Villa can be huge for Spurs season.

Tottenham stopped the losing streak

There is no sugar coating the losing streak, nine goals conceded and only one goal for is relegation worthy football. The beatings were so bad, Spurs went from the top of the league with a +3 goal differential to sitting in the bottom half with a -5 goal differential and five points back of first-place.

There were questions all over about Nuno Espirito Santo and his longevity for the job and it seemed another loss would likely mean full-blown crisis mode. Instead, Tottenham found a way to get the goal they needed and the win they needed even more.

Heading into another international break with four straight losses is something we should all be happy we are not facing. Instead of all the negativity, Spurs have the positive feelings of a win. Stopping the freefall and getting the positive vibes of a win can be huge in setting the season right because Tottenham is in for a battle.
