Reasons for concern over Bryan Gil’s future at Tottenham
By Aaron Coe
The Tottenham Hotspur summer window was far from complete, although Bryan Gil looks like a great signing for the team. However, there are worrying signs that the club and bad attitudes could ruin Bryan’s talent before he even has a chance to shine for Spurs.
Bryan was one of few Tottenham bright spots
The young Spaniard may have only made a cameo appearance of about 20-minutes versus Arsenal but combined with his previous performances in non-league matches, there is little doubt Bryan needs to be on the pitch for Spurs.
Bryan was aggressive on and off the ball for Spurs versus Arsenal, looking to find the ball as much as possible in his short time on the pitch. His work to help move the ball forward and set up Spurs only goal was more evidence that the young attacker needs to get more playing time.
Not all sunshine for Bryan at Tottenham
Possibly the most damning sign for Bryan on Sunday, however, was as he was running up the pitch to apply pressure and close out on the goalkeeper at about 72 minutes, only to have Harry Kane not applying follow-up pressure to the center-back letting Arsenal off the hook.
This happened far too often throughout the game on Sunday where players were not on the same page and some brought intensity while others were just there.
Worst of all this was not the first time in his limited action this season I have seen Gil closing out hard and working defensively only to be let down by his teammates.
Tottenham needs to decide who they are going to be, a team that works hard to win the ball and play, or a team that tries sometimes when the mood suits them. If it is the latter, Spurs should probably sell Gil now before they ruin the lad because nothing stifles a player’s development more than bad attitudes, and a player this talented needs to flourish.
So there are some glimmers of hope at Tottenham but even those glimmers are clouded by the bad and indifferent attitudes that are rampant throughout the club.
Tottenham better figure something out quickly because with two more games before another international fiasco, I mean break, things could go from bad to worse if promising young players lose heart.
