Spurs Projected Midfield

Neither has been great but it is hard to see Spurs midfield this season without Pierre Hojbjerg or Oliver Skipp in it. Both provide good effort and tend to use a defense-first approach, which we know Nuno seems to prefer.

Pierre Hojbjerg (RM) – Pierre Hojbjerg is slowly finding a home on the right side of midfield. Still able to play box-to-box and contribute defensively, Pierre has been working on his runs into the box and his forward passing in the area between midfield and the box. This team needs time together and Hojbjerg is a key cog and gets the run.

Oliver Skipp (DM) – Skipp seems to be settling in rather well at defensive midfield. Not a dynamic passer Skipp will surprise you once or twice a match with a progressive pass you were not expecting. Likewise,  he has shown to be a good last line of defense against breakaways on corners and set-pieces. Still only 20, we should expect Skipp to continue to get minutes to grow his game.

Giovani Lo Celso (LM) – The third midfield position is the one that seems to be the most open at this point. Tanguy Ndombele has played well but after starting the last two matches likely would be more effective off the bench. Dele could get a runout but he had his chances with Lo Celso out and did not produce so Giovani Lo Celso gets another opportunity. Arguably the worst of the midfielders against Chelsea, Lo Celso has shown in the past that he does have an eye for the pass and can make things happen. He gets an hour Wednesday to try.
