With this round of the international break starting to come to a close, thankfully, Tottenham had more players competing for their country after more call-ups.

As an international break that many Tottenham fans would like to forget is starting to close, a few Spurs players were looking to make their mark on the World Cup qualifiers. Sergio Reguilón was called back to Spain and Joe Rodon was healthy enough to be dressed for Wales adding to the contributions from Tottenham players during these qualifiers.

Reguilón is right back in the mix for Spain

It was a successful play while on loan at Sevilla that first got Sergio Reguilón called up the Spanish senior national team. However, it was his torrid start at Tottenham last fall which propelled the young left-back into the actual line-up making his senior debut last September against Ukraine putting in an assist.

However, after Reguilón’s injury in early 2021, he never fully regained his form, nor his place in the Spanish squad. Sergio was passed over for Euro 2020 this past summer. However, following an injury to Jose Gaya in the 4-0 win over Georgia Reguilón got the recall.

Sergio was right back in the starting line-up at left-back and was all action from the start registering the game’s first shot in the first minute of the game.  Reguilón went on to take one more shot and play a solid 86 minutes. Do not worry about his late substitution, it was part of a double change where both the left and right back came off simultaneously.

Sergio should be ready for Saturday and Crystal Palace and if he can continue his form he could look to keep his place in the Spanish team moving forward.

Tottenham versus Tottenham in Wales vs Estonia

In Wales on Wednesday, Joe Rodon was back in the squad and on the bench while Ben Davies played a full 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Estonia. Significant for the Spurs on Estonia was Maksim Paskotsi who played 86 minutes as one of the three center-halves in a back five for Estonia.

On the evening Wales took 20 shots and 66% possession but managed only six shots on target and ultimately drew the match. Davies did set up Gareth Bale a couple of times but it ultimately never led to the big goal that Wales really needed.

While the point takes Wales level with the Czech Republic on 7 points with a game in hand, knowing it was Estonia’s first point in the group with another match against the same team to play likely was a bit disheartening for Wales and encouraging for Paskotsi and Estonia.

Kane connects but England can’t hold on

Much like Wales versus Estonia, England had the lion’s share of the possession at 63%. However, unlike that Wales and Estonia match, the shot from each team was much more even, with England only taking two more shots than Poland 13 to 11 and the Poles managing more on target four to two.

As the game drew to the end it looked like the story was going to be Harry Kane. The Spurs striker had an incredible strike from distance at the 72nd minute to give the Three Lions a 0-1 lead. However, England’s perfect qualifying run came to an end as two minutes into injury time Robert Lewandowski sent in a cross which Damian Szymanski headed home to level the score leaving each team with a point.

Had England won they would have been a full eight points up on Poland in qualifying, instead the Three Lions are five points ahead of Poland and just four points ahead of Albania on 16 through six matches. As for Kane, it was his seventh goal in as many appearances for England and the 15th straight qualifying match that he has scored for his country.

You have to go all the way back to September 2017 and a 2-1 versus Slovakia to find a qualifier where Kane has not scored for his country. Let’s hope that fine form continues with Tottenham at the weekend.

Now, these players will all return to N17 to join the others and prepare for a return to the Premier League.
